Baptism at St Michael & All Angels Church

A Sacred Step in Faith

Baptism is a joyful and meaningful celebration that marks the beginning of a spiritual journey. It is a sacrament that symbolizes new life, cleansing, and a commitment to the Christian faith. Through baptism, individuals are welcomed into the church family, affirming God’s love and grace.

Baptism for Infants and Children

For parents, baptism is a wonderful opportunity to give thanks for the gift of their child and seek God’s blessing for their spiritual growth. During the service, parents and godparents make promises on behalf of the child, committing to guide and nurture them in the Christian faith.

If you are considering baptism for your child, we invite you to attend a baptism preparation session where we will discuss its significance, the responsibilities involved, and answer any questions you may have.

Baptism for Adults

For those who were not baptized as children, adult baptism is a profound declaration of faith and commitment. Those considering baptism are encouraged to take time to explore their beliefs through discussion and preparation before taking this important step.

What Happens During a Baptism?

Baptisms take place either within a regular church service or as a private ceremony. The key elements include:

  • Promises and Commitments – Parents, godparents, or the individual being baptized make commitments to live out their faith.

  • Water Baptism – The candidate is baptized with water, symbolizing purification and new life in Christ.

  • Welcoming into the Church Family – The congregation affirms and celebrates the newly baptized as part of the Christian community.
